Whilst CD (Course & Distance Winners) is a good guide, it doesn’t mean much if that horse won at the course over the same distance but over good going whereas today’s going is Heavy. If a horse has shown that it can win at a certain course over a certain distance over today’s going then it might just do it again.

When a horse wins a race its official rating is increased. If it doesn’t win again, its rating will be reduced. It often does well when it returns to the handicap it had the last time it won.
